Chris Thomas
Senior Pastor
Chris has served as the Senior Pastor of FBC since July of 2020. He previously served congregations in Alabama and Texas. He is a graduate of Samford University in Birmingham, Alabama (2006, B.A.), Baylor University’s George W. Truett Theological Seminary in Waco, Texas (2009, M.Div.), and Mercer University’ McAfee School of Theology in Atlanta, GA (2020, D.Min.).
Chris is an avid reader, a lover of stories, the universe, working with his hands, and finds great joy in walking alongside others on this journey of life and faith.
He and his wife, Sallie, have two sons, Kohl and Carter.
Kelsey Lewis Vincent

Kelsey originally hails from Charleston, SC, and is an alum of the University of South Carolina. She later attended Emory University’s Candler School of Theology in Atlanta, where she met and married her husband Rémy. She enjoys spending time with her dog Karl and cat Dinah, gardening and floristry, and reading–preferably on the beach whenever possible.

Kelley Garris
Minister of Music
Kelley began serving as Minister of Music/Organist at FBC Wilson in May of 2009. Before that, she served 25 years at First Baptist Smithfield. She is married to Greg, who is retired from both hospital pharmacy work and directing the Pharmacy Technologist program at Johnston Community College. They have three grown sons, Evan, Madison, and Cameron. Kelley grew up as a pastor’s kid in Southern Pines, NC, graduated from Meredith College (BM, BA) and the University of Kansas (MM) She loves serving alongside all ages of people at First Baptist in music and worship.
She enjoys fellowship and planning events with the Wilson Church Musician’s Guild. In her spare time she likes to walk in downtown Wilson, play with her dogs and cats, read, go “thrifting,” and work in the yard.
Jay Wheeler
Kairos Worship Leader
Jay began serving as Kairos band leader at FBC Wilson in September of 2019. Before that, he sang and played various instruments in the band since contemporary worship began at FBC in 2009.
He is married to Jill and they have two sons, Jackson (15) and Elliott (13). Jay graduated from Barton College in 2001 with a major in Hispanic Studies and a minor in English. He is in his twenty-second year of teaching/coaching at Fike High School in Wilson.
He enjoys reading and making music in his free time and coaching baseball. Jay gets his most pleasure from planning music for the early service at FBC and seeing congregants fully engulfed in worship.
Claudia Scala
Administrative Assistant
Claudia grew up in Connecticut and moved to North Carolina from New Jersey. She worked in a law firm for 32 years starting as a word processor and leaving as office manager/bookkeeper. She and her husband, Dave, are enjoying life in Wilson although she misses her family including her son and grandchildren.
